Rep. women players top batting averages

As expected New Zealand representative players dominate the averages for the Hansells Cup national women’s cricket tournament which ended in Christchurch

this week. The first five batsmen were all included in the New Zealand team named recently. In the bowling list the three leading wickettakers, Sue Brown, Linda Fraser and Liz Signal are the strike force of the New Zealand team.

Canterbury is well represented on the tables. Lesley Murdoch and Karen Gunn hold third and fifth places respectively in the batting, while Kirsty Bond and Vicki Burtt also appear. The top spot in the bowling goes to Brown, who also

took the most wickets. In second place is the 17-year-old Kirsty Bond, who had a most memorable tournament. She and Jackie Clark (Central Districts) are the only players to appear in both lists.
