N.Z. chess results
Ortvin Sarapu of Auckland and Adrian Lloyd of Canterbury both earned a share of the New Zealand chess title after the final round of play in the national tournament yesterday. Lloyd, runner-up last year, took a win over Phillip Clemance of Wellington to earn a share of the title with the 19-times-winner, Sarapu. The pair finished with 7% points each for equal first place. Results were: N. Metge (Auckland) drew with P. Green (Auckland); B. Anderson (Canterbury) beat B. Alexander (Canterbury); L. McLaren (Wellington) drew with R. Dive (Wellington); A. Ker (Wellington) beat N. Hopewell (Auckland); R. Gibbons (Auckland) lost to N. Wilson (Canterbury); G. Aldridge (Wellington), drew with
M. Noble (Wellington). Results of yesterday’s play.— O. Sarapu (Auckland) drew with P. Stuart (Auckland); R. Nokes (Canterbury) beat R. Smith (Auckland); P. Clemance (Wellington) lost to A. Lloyd (Canterbury); J. Sarfati (Wellington) drew with A. Love (Otago); P. Garbett (Auckland) lost to M. Hopewell (Auckland); C. Baker (Canterbury) drew with R. Hart (Auckland). Final standings were.— Sarapu, Lloyd 7%; Nokes, Sarfati, Love, Smith 7; Garbett, Green, Metge, M. Hopewell 6; Anderson, Stuart, Dive, Clemance 5%; Ker, Noble, Baker, Hart 5; M. Wilson 4%; McLaren, Alexander 4; Aldridge, M. Hopewell, Gibbons 3%. Premier reserve first place was shared by P. McKenzie (Canterfcgry) and B. Martin (Otago)?
