Snedden, Crowe ruled unfit

NZPA staff correspondent Melbourne New Zealand will be without Martin Snedden and Jeff Crowe for the World Series Cup one-day match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today. . Their match fitness did not quite measure up when the tour selectors announced their team last evening. The Wicketkeeper, Ervin McSweeney, and a medium pacer, Stuart Gillespie, are newcomers, and Northern Districts’ Bruce Blair returns after a four-year spell. The New Zealand captain, Jeremy Coney, said that Snedden was fit but had not

played a lot of cricket recently. “It is going to be a long tournament and we decided it was best he wait another game,” said Coney. To offset the absence of Crowe and Snedden, New Zealand will probably play both spinners, John Bracewell and Stephen Boock, on the brown and grassless M.C.G. batting strip.

The four main bowlers should be Richard Hadlee, Ewen Chatfield, Boock and Bracewell. The New Zealand side is: John Wright, Bruce >Edgar, Martin Crowe, John Reid, Bruce Blair, Jeremy Coney (captain), Richard Hadlee, John- Bracewell, Ervin McSweeney, Stephen Boock, Ewen Chatfield and Stuart Gillespie?
