Lucky race

The Stan Baxter Memorial Handicap at Reefton is proving to be a lucky race for Canterbury apprentices. Michael Fleming scored the first win of his career when successful on Mighty Million in the event last year, and Palvet credited Warren Stevenson with his first win in the corresponding race yesterday. Stevenson, aged 16, is apprenticed to Bevan Laming but recently has been on loan to the Riccarton trainers, Tony and Lyn Prendergast, who train Palvet, a decisive winner over Red Lancer yesterday.
