Remand after shooting
NZPA Auckland A man charged with attempting to murder an assistant hotel manager, Mr David Lawrence, at Pukekohe, was remanded in custody for three weeks when he appeared in the District Court at Papakura yesterday. Phillip Hiku, aged 27, a welder, of Pukekohe, made his first appearance on the charge before a Justice of the Peace a week ago. Judge Richardson yesterday remanded Hiku in custody to January 16. Meanwhile, Mr Lawrence, who suffered shotgun wounds to the face, was in a comfortable condition late yesterday, a Middlemore Hospital spokesman said.
