3 litre Supra to be launched

Following on the heels of its new front-wheel-drive 2 litre Celica GT, Toyota is expected to unveil a new Supra powered by a 3 litre, 24 valve, in-line six-cylinder engine in Japan in January. The new Supra is being developed to take on Nissan’s 300ZX and Mazda’s new RX7.

Although a turbocharged and inter-cooled 182 kW version of the Supra will be produced, it will be a norm-ally-aspirated 149 kW model that will be exported initially.

This new model is aimed primarily at the North American market and is said to be very much in the American supercar style, so it might not be the ideal sports car for European and British Commonwealth

markets. .■ *♦ * . Ford’s recently introduced Granada-Scorpio saloon has been voted car of the year by Britain’s Guild of Motoring Writers.
