Mail man wins $10M prize

NZPA-AP New York Lloyd Christie, a fattier of seven who works as a mail sorter at a bank, was nameed sole winner yesterday of a' SUSIO million ($19.8 million) New York state Christmas lottery. Mr Christie, aged 50, originally from Jamaica, said that, his wife, Nilva, had been more than a little angry after learning he had spent SUSS ($9.90) on Sunday

on a card full of losing lottery numbers. “She said, ‘I told you don’t spend that amount of money. You only (need) one dollar to win,” Mr Christie said. Then he remembered another ticket that he had bought on Friday. He compared the winning numbers to that ticket “and I said, ‘that’s it, that’s it’.” His wife had said, “You’re

crazy,” and he read off the numbers while his wife double-checked them. Asked how she felt about her husband’s gambling now, Mrs Christie replied, “Better.” The couple, whose children range in age from 14 to 29, said that they had not decided what they would do with the money. It will be paid in 21 annual instalments of

$U5476,190 ($942,856), less 20 per cent withheld for income taxes. They said that their priority would be a new home, and then maybe a car. Mrs Christie said that she planned to continue working as a nurse’s aide at a hospital. “I do whatever she tells me to,” her husband said. “She’s the boss. If she says I got to get up, I move.”
