Emperor into 60th year
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo Emperor Hirohito, the longest-living Japanese emperor in history began his sixtieth year of reign yesterday. At 84 he still performs many public duties and follows * his main hobby, studying biology. His next public appearance is expected in a week, when he is due to greet New Year well-wishers from the balcony of the Imperial Palace, in the heart of Tokyo. Hirohito surpassed the previous longest-living Emperorf Gomizunco (159616«),Vjuly.
