Rescue aircraft repaired

Minor repairs have been made to the Winfield regional rescue -helicopter after vandals damaged its tail section at Piha Beach, near Auckland.

Several youths were found swinging on the helicopter’s horizontal stabilisers late on Monday evening. It was first thought that the machine would vibrate’ and might need repairs

which would keep it out of the air for days. But the pilot, Mr Max Donnelly, said that while brackets for the horizontal stablisers were bent, they were easily replaced. He said that the helicopter was cleared to fly. Inspections were made at the Mechanics Bay helipad in Auckland late on Tuesday eveningTfor possible damage to the O 1 rotor.
