Arson attack at couple’s house
A bizarre arson attack on the home of an elderly Christchurch couple early on Tuesday morning is being treated seriously by the police. An intruder broke into the couple’s house in Shortland Street, Wainoni, and started a fire at the foot of thenbed.
Two other fires were started in the house.
The couple were awakened about 2.30 a.m. by smoke coming from a pile
of clothes burning in their bedroom. All three fires were quickly brought under control, and caused little damage. The intruder is though to have entered the house through a window. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
Detectives were yesterday following what they described as a strong lead, although no definite motive had been established.
