Dual event

The second Homebush endurance riding event on January 11 and 12 will serve a double purpose. In addition to being the Canterbury Endurance Riders’ Club championship it will also be the South Island championship. The New Zealand Endurance and Trail Riding Association awarded the club the South Island title to be held in conjunction with the Canterbury event near Darfield. The event will cover 160 km with the Homebush property, near Darfield, the base. Last year the race event was won in llhr smin, but a higher standard of entries is expected this year and the winning time could be lowered.

On the first day riders will cover 100 km on undulating hill country, forestry areas and road verges. A two day event for senior riders over 90km, and a 32km ride for juniors on January 11 will be held in conjunction with the main event.

The organisers have been

fortunate to obtain attractive sponsorship. The winner . of the 160 km event will ; receive $3OO and a trophy , donated by Ken and Kathryn McCallum, and sponsored goods to the - value of $2OO. First prize in ; the senior event is $l5O and a trophy, and the junior .. winner will receive $5O and < a trophy-. Strict veterinary supervision will ensure that the horses are in prime condition for the event. i: Wayne Parnham and Boko, who won the race last year, are expected to enter, along with Sandra Mattingly and Blue Horse who were second to Parnham. .
