A. poppy with a Flanders cross formed in the centre has been found in the driveway of Simms Jones, Ltd, at 221 Lichfield Street, Christchurch. The cross can be seen from the front and the back of the flower. The poppy, which grows profusely in Flanders, where some of the bloodiest battles of World War I were fought, is believed to be rare in New Zealand. Although it is already beginning to wilt, the staff are keeping the poppy at the firm’s reception desk in case someone wishes to claim it.
