Nicaraguans welcome marchers
NZPA-Reuter Managua Some 300 peace activists, mainly from Europe and the United States, received a warm welcome when they arrived in Nicaragua after a turbulent passage through neighbouring Costa Rica, the official newspaper “Bar-
ricada” reports. The marchers crossed into Nicaragua chanting peace slogans after Costa Rica’s Public Security Ministerordered them to quit his country after violent incidents with Rightist ex-
tremists. “Barricada” said that ambulances waited on the Nicaraguan side of the border and that eight marchers had been injured slightly on Tuesday when Costa Rican anti-Communists had buried stones and bottles at the -
group. About 500 Nicaraguans gathered on the border to greet the activists, on a “March for Peace” that began on Friday in Panama and was expected to end in Mexico.
