New Prelude top of range
Launched in Japan in June, the 2-litre Honda Prelude with the 16-valve double overhead camshaft fuel-injected engine has just been introduced on the local market, and it retails for $44,500. Known as the 2.0i-16, this is Honda’s top model and it will be marketed as an addition to the Prelude range as the 1.8-litre version, introduced three years ago, will continue in New Zealand.
The 2.0i-16 develops lOlkW at 6000 rpm, whereas the 1.8-litre Prelude develops 78kW at 5500 rpm. Maximum torque in the 2.0M6 is 170 Nm at 5000 rpm compared with 155.1 Nm at 4000
rpm in the smaller-engined Prelude.
The 2-litre 16-valve dohc engine with swing-arm valve drive and Honda’s PGM-F1 fuel injection is the direct result of Honda’s Formula One research over the last three years and adds a genuine high-performance car to the Honda range, claims the New Zealand Motor Corporation’s general manager, Mr Bruce Carson. NZMC is New Zealand’s Honda importer and distributor.
Apart from body detail changes and its power unit, the 2.0M6 is not far removed from the established 1.8-litre version of the Prelude.
