Lamb prices show rise
A more optimistic outlook on the fanning scene gave a boost to store lamb pnces at Addington market yesterday. Good feed supplies and the falling New Zealand dollar were responsible for the optimism. Prices rose about $l3O on last week’s sale Quality was generally good with a lot of Romneys offered. Corriedales also sola well A strong demand was evident for ram lambs ideal for fattening. These fetched about |l5O more than wethers. Yesterday’s yarding was 17,833 comparea with a big sale of 22,129 last week. All buyers were from Canterbury. Sales included: Whakamoa Fann (Wainui), 500 Romney rams at $ll3O to $17.10; 500 Romney wethers at $10.20 to $1420; P. H. Stapleton-Smith (Camp Bay}, 370 Romneys at $ll5O to $1520; E. W. Coop and Son (Port Levy), 140 Coopworth rams at $14.10; Fingest Farm (Tai Tapu), 523 at $10.60 to $l3; Lynton Downs (Kaikoura), 1095 at $1320 to $15.80; G. Millist (AmberleyX 87 at $l3 to $17.40; Barrys Bay Partnership, 136 at $14.80 to $15.40; A. G. Prendergast (Tai Tapu), 415 at $9.80 to $l4; M. H. Williams (Little AkaloaX 45 Romney-cross ewes at $1340, and 300 Romneycross wethers at $15.60 to $16.80; Greenfields United (West Coast), 185 Down-cross at $12.40 to $14.80; D. W. Palmer (Dolbeg), 65 Romney rams at $16.80, and 198 Romney ewes at $ll2O to $1360; A. R. Menzies (Menzies Bay), 108 Down-cross at $14.40 to $15.60 and 282 Perendales at $13.30 to $15.80. STORE CATTLE Store cattle had a good, strong sale yesterday. Fully grown animals sold $3O to $4O higher than the last sale and yearlings held similar prices to the last sale in spite of a large yarding. An annual draft line of 235 Hereford steers from Mendip Wills, Parnassus, was among the top prices with some steers selling at $676. A selection of autumn-born Hereford-Friesian-cross steer calves from J. D. Stewart (Loburn) sold well for their size because of their excellent quality. Other stock was also of a good quality. The yarding was 1880 compared with just over 1000 at the last sale. Buyers came from throughout New Zealand.

Rutherford (Waiau), 12 steers at $556 to ssh O. W. and & M. Evans (HawardenX 10 steers at $542.
