Tim Shadbolt fund

Sir,—Your correspondent, David R. Attewell’s reply to my letter criticising the advertisement begging the public to donate to the legal costs of Mayor Tim Shadbplt’s defamation case, which he lost, calls for an answer. My question was rhetorical, can anyone see a real battler like Sir Robert Muldoon reduced to begging to meet the costs of an error of his own making? No way. Not only is such a course of action self-denigrating, but it offends the dignity of office. We are free to donate to any charity of worthy cause; but Mayor Shadbolt’s fund falls far short of any such consideration in my opinion. — Yours, etc., JAMES J. DUNCAN. December 14, 1985.
