War history
Sir,—President Reagan and Mrs Thatcher need to be reminded about the part played by New Zealand armed forces. Our soldiers were present in South Africa during the Boer War. Our services responded immediately when war broke out in 1914 and again in 1939. New Zealand responded in Malaya, in Korea and in Vietnam. We even provided at naval vessel to Britain so that she could release a naval
ship for the attack on the Falklands. The United States took about three years to enter World War I and about two years to enter World War 11. Our troops joined the United States in Korea, and Vietnam, and our Government of the day agreed to join the United States to invade Indonesia in the 19505. This invasion did not eventuate because of a revolution in Indonesia. Any retribution against New Zealand for its nuclear stand is an insult to our history.—Yours, etc B. R. HANSEN. December 11, 1985.
