Muldoon-Jones case jury deliberating
PA Wellington The jury in a defamation case brought by the former Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon against Mr Bob Jones will continue its deliberations today. Sir Robert is claiming $600,000 from Mr Jones. The jury retired for the first time about noon yesterday, but returned twice for clarification of legal points from the judge presiding at the High Court hearing, Mr Justice Jeffries. At 11.25 p.m., His Honour
sent the jury home for the night. Disputed remarks attributed to Mr Jones in an “Evening Standard” newsK report concern alleis of bugging of Mr Jones’s Wellington office, Security Intelligence Service misuse and Sir Robert’s involvement as Minister in charge of the service. Also disputed are Mr Jones’s reported comments to an “Evening Post” reporter that the bugging was made because Sir Robert was “power mad” and “desperate.”
