New stallion for Canterbury
Newt Lobell, the winner of 61 of his 339 career starts for earnings of ?U5982,828, has been purchased by a Canterbury-based syndicate for stud duties next year.
Purchased by Messrs Colin Harrison, John Doig and Graeme Iggo for a syndicate which is being formed, Newt Lobell took a lmin 55.1 s record at the Meadowlands this year as an 11-year-old. A son of Adios Vic (129 in 2min), Newt Lobell raced from a two-year-old, when he won three of his seven starts, through until this year, retiring fully sound. At three, Newt Lobell won the three legs and the final of the Canadian Late Closer Series, while at four was a fast class winner in New York. Newt Lobell is from the Overtrick mare, Nana Lobell, unbeaten in three lifetime starts before being retired to stud, where she has left six other winners, including Navy Lobell (30. wins) and Namath Lobell (lmin 555). |.
Newt Lobell is scheduled to arrive in New Zealand in February. He will stand at John Doig’s Linden Lodge at Chertsey.
