Yacht race stop

Sir, — Again, Kenneth Eber Martin courteously suggests (November 13), that I write to Mr Lange to clarify why it is right for our splendid, global yachtsmen to have sporting contacts with South Africa and yet for the aborted All Blacks to be reviled, in our democracy. Mr Lange, skilled lawyer and politician, would tie me in knots. Having seen more of this globe than Mr Lange, before he was born, my uninfluenced evaluation is long established. I have more important things to do. Surely, however, curious younger New Zealanders, unless “politically punch-drunk,” could ask their local member of Parliament for a one-sentence reply to this innocent query: Why are our yachtsmen, currently enjoying magnificents Cape Town, heroes — and yet why were the All Blacks vilified? — JOHN LESLIE. November 13, 1985.
