Performing Arts opening
Dance, drama, and musical performances will highlight the formal opening today of the building which houses the new Polynesian Performing Arts course at Christchurch Polytechnic. The 20-week course, run by the polytechnic’s department of special programmes in conjunction with the Labour Depart-
ment, is already in its fifth week. It has been designed for unemployed people interested in developing thenskills in Polynesian performing arts. The opening will include a traditional Maori welcome and a special Maori blessing ceremony by the Maori elder for the polytechnic, Mr Hohua Tuten-
gaene. This will include the unveiling of a Maori carving. The building will also be blessed by the Bishop of Christchurch, the Rt Rev. Maurice Goodall.. About 60 guests and representatives of Government departments, the Christchurch City Council, and the Maori community are expected to attend.
