As this conversion completes, work will begin on new applications aimed at hospital boards and the Department of Health. The department runs a nationwide network of IBM mainframes linkqd by SNA using CODEX communications equipment. Distributed processing using IBM system 36’s and PC’s also link into mainframe centres at Christchurch and Auckland. . Languages in use are COBOL, PCS/ADS application generator and SAS statistical analysis/reporter package.
