Taylor leads golf

NZPA-AP Adelaide The Queenslander, Gerard Taylor, braved the windswept Kooyonga course to become one of the privileged few to break par and capture a oneshot lead after yesterday’s first round of the South Australian Golf Open. Taylor, aged 26, made light work of the dreadful conditions and carded only one bogey in his two under round of 70.

After turning in even par, three successive birdies at the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth holes snatched a onestroke break from the Sydneysiders, David Merriman, and Wayne Riley, on 71. Merriman, Taylor and Riley were the only players to break par yesterday, while five others managed even rounds for a share of fourth place.
