Girl dies after sniffing petrol
PA Auckland A girl, aged 12, has died after sniffing petrol. She was Emma Davis, of Pukekohe. The police said Emma Davis died after she went to a friend’s house, instead of going to school, where they sniffed the solvent. The two girls were apparently sniffing petrol in a bedroom when Emma’s friend fell asleep. When the friend awoke, she found Emma dead. Mr Ray Davis, Emma’s father, said the friend visited the family on Wednesday evening and was
“very upset.” Mr Davis said she was one of those people invited to Emma’s birthday party. Mr Davis said he did not know his daughter sniffed solvents and the news came as a total surprise. “They just told me what happened and I just broke down,” he said. Mr Davis said his daughter had lots of friends and played netball and competed in athletics for her school. He hoped that her death would be a warning to others who sniffed solvents. Emma Davis will be buried at the family’s grave site at Rangiriru.
