Applicants are required to hold a higher qualification in Surgery and be eligible for Specialist Registration. Salary will be from $38,026 - $48,824 per annum in accordance with the Specialists automatic salary scale. (A substantial increase in this scale is anticipated in the very near future.) Gisborne Hospital was opened this year as a completely new hospital of 230 beds (replacing Cook Hospital.) It has very modern facilities including a theatre suite consisting of 3 large well-equipped operating theatres and a large recovery unit. Gisborne Hospital is the base hospital for Gisborne City and the East Cape region and serves a population of 50,000. There are 3 general surgeons on the staff. The appointee will replace the surgeon who is due for retirement. Very good supporting services exist, including a modern efficient Radiological department, full Pathology facilities and a well-equipped Intensive Care Unit.
