A.I.D.S. caught in N.Z.
PA Auckland A young homosexual man, who has not travelled from New Zealand, is being treated for A.ID.S. at Auckland Hospital Dr Rod Ellis-Pegler, an Auckland ' Hospital infectious diseases physician, said the man had contracted the disease in New Zealand.
“It is the first time, as I understand, that a patient has developed A.1.D.& without being taken out of New Zealand.” However, he said the fact was not of particular significance. “All it means is that he' was infected in New Zealand."
The man was one of about eight AJ.D.S. patients who had been treated by Auckland Hospital doctors. All other reported A.I.D.S. patients in New Zealand nave contracted the disease overseas.
Dr Ellis-Pegler said the man had been diagnosed as having. A.I.D.S. within the last six months.
