Awareness Festival
More than 40 groups involved in alternative health will be at the Horticultural Hall this week-end for the Health and Awareness Festival. The festival is the second annual event to be held in Christchurch, and has been organised by the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centre, said an organiser, Mr John Holden. Free healing workshops, check-ups by a registered health practitioner, and meditation instruction will be some of the activities for the public to participate in, he said. Last year’s festival was intended to be a meeting only for the participating groups and not the general public, he said. “However, several thousand people eventually attended the festival and everyone was amazed by this level of interest.” Because of this, the 1985 festival would be directed primarily toward the public, he said. “It was agreed that generally the public was illinformed about many of the alternative services available and so the festival is also seen as a unique and effective way of educating the public.” The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow. There will be a variety of films, slideshows, and other events. The second edition of a directory of holistic health care practitioners in Christchurch will be available.
