Approval for offices
Proposals for five twostorey office buildings at the comer of Bealey Avenue and Churchill Street have been approved by the Christchurch City Council’s town-planning hearing panel. However, one member of the panel presented a dissenting opinion in the panel’s decision. Cr Mollie Clark felt the development should be re-
quired to at least in part (20 per cent) be used for activities permitted as of right in its residential zone. The proposed office buildings are not a permitted use of either the industrial 1 or residential 5 zones which cover the land. The panel noted that the development design blended well with the residential neighbourhood.
It also noted that the residential 5 zone included medical centre and veterinary offices. The developers had indicated this would probably be the use of some of the offices. The proposal would not have significance beyond the site itself, the panel said, it approved the application subject to parking and landscaping conditions.
