Award for women

A new scholarship, aimed to encouraging young women to attend Lincoln College, has been announced by the south-west Christchurch branch of the Zonta Club. The scholarship of $5OO will be awarded at the end of each year to a girl attending one of the four local high schools who intends studying at Lincoln College the next year. It was hoped the recipients would enter occupations not usually taken up by women, said the president of the Lincoln College Students’ Association, Ms Kirsty Burnett. Applicants’ financial circumstances would be considered along with academic merit, contribution to school and community life, and suitability for the chosen course. Application forms are available from the principals of Hillmorton High School, Cashmere High School, , Ellesmere College, and Lincoln High School.
