Singapore dairy deal

PA Wellington The Dairy Board announced yesterday the establishment of a joint-ven-ture company to import, process, and market dairy products in Singapore.

Cold Store Dairies, with total assets of about $3O million, would also house two laboratories for processing, quality controlling

and developing foodstuffs based on New Zealand dairy produce for Asian markets, the board said. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research would lease space in the 13,500 sq m complex to research and develop food ingredients and consumer products based on New Zealand raw materials. Much of the D.S.I.R.’s work

would be on contract to New Zealand companies. The company was expected to import, process and sell 10,000 tonnes of butter, ghee, milk powders and butterfat blends, and more than 12 million litres of milk, ice-cream and yoghurt each year. Total annual sales were expected to exceed $5O million, the board said.
