$250,000 writ withdrawn

PA Auckland A $250,000 writ brought against the Waitemata City Council by a former employee has been dropped. The two-year-old lawsuit was withdrawn as it was about to be heard in the High Court.

Dennis Wilmott Hansen, now a community officer in the Department of Maori Affairs, sought damages from the council and four council employees for incidents in 1979 and 1980.

Mr Hansen’s lawyer, Mr Kevin Ryan, said the matter was settled out of court in his client’s interests. Waitemata’s City Manager, Mr Reg Walker, said the council had not conceded Mr Hansen’s claims and no money had been paid.
