Submissions on women’s refuges
PA Wellington The Minister of Women’s Affairs, Mrs Kerens, has invited submissions on a review of women’s refuges. Mrs Kerens released the terms of reference for the review. The review will be done by a task force representing the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Social Welfare Department and the Justice Department. Its terms of reference will cover the work of the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges, and its present and past affiliates, by resolving to consider and advise on the
most appropriate structures for co-ordinating refuge services; to determine the most suitable procedures for administering and funding refuge services; to identify the main training needs of refuge workers and how these can best be met; to advise on ways in which the standards of refuge service can be further raised; and to identify further issues relating to domestic violence and support services for its victims which require study. Mrs Hercus said submissions should be sent by October 31 to the task force’s office at the Social Welfare Deparment.
