Women’s refuges get big grant
The National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges has been given ?40,000 by the New Zealand Lottery Board towards running costs. It was the biggest single grant in the latest distribution of funds by the board’s welfare services distribution committee. A total of $162,825 in grants was given to organisations in the third distribution of funds from ; the committee’s budget of $2.4 million. A total of $611,880 has been allocated so far this financial year. The national steering
committee of Rape Crisis and Related Groups received $27,500 to help set up a national organisation. The New Zealand Foundation for the Deaf in Auckland received $lO,OOO, and Muscular Dystrophy of New Zealand received $2OOO towards the cost of a vehicle. Other grants included: Marlborough Parent’s Centre, Blenheim, $275 towards the cost of a typewriter, Mothers’ Helpers, Waimate, $lOOO towards running costs; Christchurch Special Class After Care, $5OO toward running costs. __
