Police search finds cannabis but no firearms

About 40 cannabis plants were seized by the police after a search of the Devil’s Henchmen motor-cycle gang headquarters in Sheldon Street, Woolston, yesterday morning. The police had been looking for firearms and a search warrant was issued on the basis of information received, said Inspector Pat Kavanagh, who was in charge of the operation. No firearms or other weapons were found. The cannabis plants were all between scm and 7cm high, he said. No arrests were

made. More than 25 policemen, including dog handlers, spent three hours searching the property. “It (the property) covers quite a big area and that is why we needed that number of staff and the dogs,” said Inspector Kavanagh. No gang members were at the house when the police arrived about 8 a.m., he said. The Sheldon Street property has been the gang’s headquarters since early July, when it moved from a house in Ferry Road.
