Printers’ Union to remain with F.O.L.

PA Palmerston North The 11,700-member Printers’ Union will remain affiliated to the Federation of Labour by a majority of just 436 votes, the union said yesterday. The national postal ballot resulted in 53 per cent of members voting for continued affiliation, with 47 per cent against. The ballot attracted a 64 per cent response from union members, the union’s annual council meeting was told in Palmerston North yesterday. Commenting later, the union’s president, Mr Alan Ryan, of Auckland, said the result showed that the union’s membership remained fairly evenly divided on the question of affiliation. The ballot was held at the request of members opposed to affiliation.
