Cockroaches

Sir, — I gather from Ted Hicks’ letter that he has only had experience with the New Zealand native cockroaches. These are vastly different from those roaches which are pests in other countries. If Mr Hicks were to spend some time in Sydney he would no longer feel sympathetic to the roaches’ cause. One cannot open a book there without a few dropping out. Even the hospitals are infested. Thousands are spent on eradication, but to no avail. A radio I had bought in Sydney needed repairing recently, and inside it were 12 dead cockroaches. I did not enjoy sharing my lodgings with these disgusting parasites. Until we travel overseas we do not appreciate the problems they create. Death to the roach. Yours, etc., GENEVIEVE D. GRAY.
