French actions in New Zealand
Sir, — Today, with the release of the Tricot exercise in fulility, I have made my own “Rainbow connection.” I berate myself for my laggard and naive attitudes of the past, but I have now come to recognise the “Made in France” label for the obscene pollutant to New Zealand that it is. — Yours, etc., RUTH MERCIER. Blenheim. August 27, 1985.
Sir, — In two world wars my family fought in Europe for “freedom and democracy.” In each war an uncle was killed on French soil fighting for what they believed to be a good and just cause, for people they did not know. With France’s action in sending five spies to New Zealand and possibly
being involved in the death of a Greenpeace pacifist to “protect their interests in the South Pacific,” those deaths have been greatly shamed and wasted. — Yours, etc., D. D. GAVIN. August 29, 1985.
