GST and tax

Sir, — What a delight it would be if the Labour Government, which claims that it is for the average

person, actually decided that the best thing for the country’s economy was to lower personal income tax and forget about introducing GST. Then those with the initiative to earn above-average incomes would be left with enough money-to employ the unemployed, instead of having to pay it by way of tax to the Government, which then pays it to the unemployed by way of social welfare benefits, often for doing nothing productive. — Yours, etc., D. MAIN. August 27, 1985.
