Superannuitants’ taxes
Sir, — I have read the Government advertisement that we are all going to be better off under the new tax scale. I am a national superannuitant in the middle group, $9OOO to $30,000.1 am having 67c in the dollar clawed off my pension. I have not seen anything to change this. Mr Lange says he will benefit by over $2OO a week under the new scheme. I only hope we superannuitants don’t miss out, as most of us have worked twice as long as the Prime Minister and I am sure we need food and warmth as much as he does. Superannuitants may not look as powerful as the major unions, but to those attending the Labour Party conference at the week-end I say — remember Timaru. — Yours, etc., G. N. SPENCE.
