Worthy cause needs golfers
More golfers are needed to ensure the success of the first tournament to be held by HOPE Incorporated, an organisation of families with children suffering mainly from cancer related diseases. The tournament will be held at Coringa, which has allowed the use of its course for the day, on September 11, and all 18 holes have been sponsored. As well, a big array of prizes have been donated by Christchurch business firms. Starting times for the tournament will be between 7.30 a.m. and 9 a.m., and between noon and 1.30 p.m. from the first and tenth tees. A spokesman for HOPE said yesterday that the field was only about one-third
full. The entry fee of $l5 included a meal. The objective of the tournament is to raise funds which, primarily, will be used to send children and their mothers to Disneyland whenever possible. The HOPE spokesman said the organisation had more than 30 children with cancer related illnesses, and the number was increasing. “We hope to send 10 children and their mothers to Disneyland this year, and from the monies raised from the golf tournament, we hope to send more next year,” the spokesman said. If successful this year, the golf tournament is likely to become an annual event. Entries for the tournament can be sent to P.O. Box 13-078, Christchurch.
