Australia Record trading
PA Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed at record levels in steady trading with BHP leading a late rally, brokers said. They said the market opened nervously on a lack of buving interest but recovered on’ the strength of aggressive buying of 2.6 million BHP shares. The all ordinaries index closes 0.7 points firmer at 957.1, after falling 2.5 points in early trading. The all industrials shed 1.3 points to 1390.1 as profit-takers entered the market after the past few davs’ hectic trading. ’ Brokers said a 10-point fall in the gold index to ‘lO5O was not significant in view of its recent strong paint The all resources marker fared the best of the indices with a 2.1 point gain to 621.7.
