Record mile by Nihilator

NZPA East Rutherford New Jersey The three-year-old colt, Nihilator, ran the fastest race mile in harness history on Saturday when he won a SUSSO,OOO ($95,000) invitational pace in lmin 49.6 s at the Meadlowlands. The only faster mile in pacing history was the lmin 49 2s recorded during a time trial by Nihilator’s sire, Niatross, in October, 1980. Nihilator’s performance shattered the world race record of lmin 50.6 s set by Coltfortysix as a three-year-old pacer last August and poualled by Nihilator when g won the SUSI,OBO,OOO ($2,052,000) Meadlowlands pace on July 19. Nihilator, driven by. Bill O’DOnnell, was fourth after

the first quarter-mile. Shannon Majority was first at this point, followed by Falon Seelster and Goodnatured Fella. Then Nihilator moved outside horses and quickly took the lead which he held to the wire. Prakas, driven by Bill O’Donnell, won the $U51,272,000 ($2,416,800) Hambletonian for three-year-old trotters in straight heats at the Meadowlands and set a stakes record in doing it. Prakas, which won the second division of the first heat in a record of lmin 55.2 for the one-mile Meadlowlands track, came back to win the second heat and the Hambletonian in lmin 54.6.
