Govt surplus property sales
PA Wellington Sales of surplus Government properties throughout New Zealand have reach $23 million since March last year.
Sales of 194 properties in Wellington have brought in $6.4 million; about 60 properties in Auckland, $5.3 million; 80 in Christchurch, $3 million; and 35 in Dunedin, $1.5 million. There were also property sales elsewhere.
In May and June this year sales averaged just over $2.5 million a month. The figure for July is expected to be similar. The Lands and Survey Department, which handles sales for the Government, has about 900 properties to be sold.
The Government changed the rules in late 1983 on the sale of its surplus property, allowing departments to use the proceeds for new policy srejects, as a sales incentive.
