Attempt to buy vessel
PA Dunedin A Stewart Island man has confirmed he is negotiating to buy the survey vessel Acheron as a replacement for the Bluff Stewart Island ferry run. Mr lan Johnson said he was negotiating with the boat’s Dunedin owner, Mr A. J. Black, and the deal depended on whether the Cabinet approved his plan.
Ministry of Transport officials have supported Mr Johnson’s plan. Another option is a 150passenger, roll-off ferry proposed by Foveaux Sea Services, which is favoured by a Southland United Council committee considering the matter.
The present ferry Wairua will go off the run next month.
