Gisborne flood appeal

PA Wellington The Opposition spokesman on civil defence, Mr Graeme Lee, has called for greater public support for the appeal fund set up after last week’s floods in Gisborne. The Gisborne appeal fund stood at only $20,000, compared with about $300,000 that was raised by the public in the Southland and Thames Valley emergencies, he said. Mr Lee said he expected the Government to offer the same dollar-for-dollar subsidy that had been available to the other funds.
