Woman helpless 60 hours

Timaru reporter A Timaru woman, aged 76, who lay helpless in her bedroom with a broken hip for 60 hours last week-end, is recovering in Timaru Hospital. Both the hospital and Timaru police refused, at the request of relatives, to give the woman’s identity or condition yesterday. The woman fell on the Friday evening and was found on Monday morning after a district nurse failed to gain entry to the house. “How the woman survived in bitterly cold conditions, without food, for almost three days I don’t know,” said Mr Maurice Eathome, crime prevention officer of the Timaru police. The blinds of the woman’s house were closed the whole week-end, and two newspaper were left outside.
