Doubt about search
PA Wanganui The search for two men who plummeted 20 metres into a swollen stream near Wanganui on Wednesday afternoon will be called off unless the weather improves, said the police last evening. Heavy rain yesterday hampered efforts to find a farmer, Ben Evan Nitschke,
aged 56, and his son, Graeme Ross Nitschke, aged 26, who both fell into the Ahuahu Stream when the flying fox they were using collapsed. Wanganui police said a decision on whether to continue the search, which had so far used divers, canoeists, rafters, shore parties and helicopters, would be made this morning.
