South Island ski-field conditions reported to the Christchurch Snow Centre yesterday were:— Amuri: 60cm base; 20cm packed powder July 28; all runs groomed; all facilities operating; chains carried. Broken Riven All facilities operating subject to weather. Cardrona: Packed powder on groomed trails; chains required; all facilities operating. Coronet Peak: 60cm base; last fall 10cm July 31; excellent ski-ing; all facilities operating; chains required. Craigieburn: 10cm fresh snow; all facilities operating; subject to weather; chains carried. Mt Cheeseman: 40cm base; all facilities operating subject to weather. Mt Dobson: 50cm base; chains required; main runs groomed; all facilities operating; last fall 20cm July 25; packed powder on main runs. Harris Mountains: 1.25 m base; helicopters operating subject to weather. Mt Hutt: 85cm base; last fall scm July 31; windblown powder on firm base; all facilities operating; chains to be fitted.
Ohau: 90cm base; chains required; all facilities operating.
Porter Heights: 40cm base; 7cm new snow; excellent powder ski-ing over whole mountain; all facilities operating; chains carried. Tasman Glacier: Last fall 30cm July 31; powder on 3 metre base; ski planes operating; subject to weather. Tekapo: 30cm base; last fall Bcm new snow July 31; all facilities operating; chains required. Treble Cone: Base 25cm-85cm; last fall Im August 1; chains required; all facilities operating. Mt Cook heli-ski: Last fall 25cm July 31; powder on 2 metre base; helicopter operating subject to weather. Mt Olympus: 60cm base; all facilities operating; chains required. Fox Glacier: Helicopters operating subject to weather. Two Thumbs heli-ski: Helicopters operating subject to weather; base one metre. New Zealand heli-ski: Operating ex-Queenstown; subject to weather. Mt Hutt heli-ski: Helicopters operating subject to weather. Rainbow: 70cm base; last fall 10cm July 31; groomed slopes; all facilities operating; helicopter subject to weather, chains essential.
