$NZ fluctuates
PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar traded wildly in a 1.5 c (U.S.) range on the the foreign exchange market yesterday. It fell as low as $U50.5055, then traded to a high of $U50.5200, before settling to close in the middle ground at $U50.5140/ 60. One dealer said that, while sentiment was still “bullish,” there was widespread panic, with people taking profits “rather read-
ily” at SUSO.SIBO. At one stage there was a 60-point spread between the buy and sell figures. There had been active two-way business from importers and exporters. While the market saw a re-emergence of two-way corporate business, there was still off-shore interest. At 4.35 p.m., the New Zealand dollar was worth 51.5 c US, 73.2 c Australian, 36.6 p, 123.2 yen and 1.47 marks.
