Chch gains extra licence
By STEVE WILSON The Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club has been allocated an extra T.A.B. licence for the coming season, bringing the total to six. In addition there will be 12 on-course only meetings, and the season should prove to be one of the most exciting to date. Feature event of the season will be the $6OOO Classique Cottages New Zealand Championship in November. Four heats will be run on Monday, November 11, and the final will be held on Thursday, November 14. The stake for the event will be at least twice as much as for any other event in the country. Mr Gordon Kingston, secretary of the club, said that it is hoped the best dogs in the country will be attracted for the event. It is also hoped that there will be some Australian interest. A New South Wales representative, Matchless Mari, was successful in the New Zealand Cup earlier this year. Another feature will be the Reg Storer Motors Juvenile Stakes, a re-stricted-age event to be run on October 17. There will be substantial travelling subsidies available to the winner for the New Zealand St Leger in Wellington and for the New Zealand Oaks in Invercargill. The club’s totalisator dates for the 1985-86 season (T.A.B. meetings in bold type) are:— September 5, September 19 (America’s Trophy Final C2, Robinson Rosebowl C 5), September 30 (Gibson Trophy (C3D, Ladies Bracelet, bitches only), October 17 (Phoenix Cup, C 4, Reg Storer Motors Juvenile Stakes, restricted age), November 11, November 14 (Classique Cottages New Zealand Championship Final), December 5, December 27 (Harding Cup), January 9, January 23, February 4 (New Zealand Cup, Canterbury Futurity Stakes restricted age), February 20 (Bunny Lodge Stakes). March 13 (Mayors Cup Cl), Lord Shannon Cup Final (C 3 April 17 Counsel! Memorial Cup, C 5, Sockburn Plumpton Cup C3D), May 15. June 3 (South Island Championship Final), June 30 Garden City Classic, rest age dogs, Roneo Laurels, rest age bitches), July 14 (Triple Crown Series).
